DOHA: Abu Samra recorded the lowest temperature for Saturday morning at 7°C while in Doha it was 14°C,Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) said.

QMD earlierannounced that the astronomical start of winter will occur on Saturday.

On Saturday morning, Shahaniyah recorded 8°C while Ghuwayriyah, Alkhor and Karanah all recorded 9°C.

Known as the Winter Solstice, this day (this year Dec 21) marks the official end of autumn and the beginning of winter according to astronomical definitions.

The Winter Solstice is an astronomical event that signifies the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, with no sunrise or sunset occurring at the Arctic Circle.

Weather conditions on Sunday will witness blowing dust at times,QMD said in its forecast.

It will be relatively cold during the daytime with scattered clouds and will becomecold to very cold at night.
