Abu Samra recorded the lowest temperature on Saturday at 7°C , while in Doha it was 14°C, Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) has said.

On Saturday morning, Shahaniyah recorded lowest temperature at 8°C, while Ghuwayriyah, Alkhor and Karanah all recorded 9°C.

Weather conditions on Sunday will witness blowing dust at times, QMD said in its forecast.It will be relatively cold during the daytime with scattered clouds and will become cold to very cold at night.

The QMD said this year astronomical winter begins on December 21.

This day, which is known as Winter Solstice, marks the end of autumn and the beginning of winter astronomically. The astronomical calendar determines the season due to the 23.5° tilt of the Earth’s rotational axis while orbiting around the sun.Here, the sun become perpendicular to the Tropic of Capricorn. Winter Solstice is an astronomical phenomenon, which marks the shortest day and longest night of the year in Northern hemisphere with no sunrise or sunset at the Arctic circle.
