Vasily Shestakov, President of International Sambo Federation (ISF), is visiting Qatar along with a team of Sambo experts that includes six Russian martial art experts. In an exclusive interview with Qatar Tribune, Shestakov said that he is here to study the possibility of opening a Sambo training centre in Qatar.
He said that six highly skilled male members of the team held a demonstration of Sambo combat skills and self-defence art at the Aspire Zone as part of the Qatar National Sport Day celebration. Lauding the national event, he said that it was amazing to see participation on such a massive scale in the sport day activities by citizens as well as residents-- men, women, and children of all ages along with officials. Shestakov was happy that people who watched the Sambo demonstration were impressed showing deep interest in the martial art.
It is to be noted that the Russian Sambo show was arranged in connection with Qatar-Russia Year of Culture as one of the concluding events in collaboration with Aspire Zone, Russian embassy in Qatar, Russian Oil Company Rosneft and International Sambo Federation. Sambo experts also conducted interactive workshops and highlighted the significance of the combat sport.
ISF president said that he is meeting with officials of various organisations and institutions for establishing Sambo Center in Qatar and looking for partnership.
