As part of the ‘Arsal Relief’ campaign, a team of volunteers from Qatar Charity (QC) visited Lebanon to participate in aid distribution in Arsal and neighbouring areas.
The aid is being provided by the Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) as part of a QR5mn grant from the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to support the storm-affected people in Arsal and surrounding areas.
The project aims to support the affected Syrian refugees and secure their minimum needs for survival by providing supplies, particularly winter necessities. It also aims to help and strengthen the resilience of displaced persons, with particular attention to vulnerable groups including women, children and people with special needs.
Emergency relief assistance was provided in several camps including Beqaa, Arsal and Akkar. The project aims to rehabilitate 500 wholly or partially damaged tents, distribute heating fuel to 5,000 families -- 40 litres per family -- and 10,000 mattresses to 5,000 families.
Also, some 10,000 blankets will be provided to 5,000 families, in addition to the distribution of 10,000 food rations, 500 awnings for tents and vouchers for winter clothes to 4,000 families in need.
The project, which is funded by QFFD and implemented by QC, targets 11,000 Syrian refugee families (nearly 60,000 people) and aims to improve their living conditions and alleviate their suffering by providing services to them. The aid will also benefit the poorest segments of the Lebanese society.
The Amir has recently given directions to allocate $50 million in support of the Syrian refugees and displaced persons suffering from dire humanitarian conditions caused by displacement and the winter in Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan and in Syria. From the grant, QR5mn was allocated through the QFFD to support the ‘Arsal Relief’ campaign, which is supervised by QC.
According to the report of UN High Commissioner for Refugees, 69 percent of the Syrian refugee families in Lebanon live below the poverty line, while more than 51 percent of them live below the minimum expenditure. The aid to benefit 60,000 refugees
