On the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the establishment of Qatari sports club Al Ahli, the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara – hosted an exhibition to commemorate the club’s legends at Building 19 on Monday.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by members of the club management and some of the legendary players from the club’s team, along with other officials and dignitaries.
Ali Mohammed Al Ali, manager of the exhibition and a former player of Al Ahli Club, said the exhibition aims to document the history of sports, football in particular, in Qatar, besides commemorating the prominent Qatari footballers.
“This exhibition presents to the world Qatar’s long history of soccer and other sports. Especially as Qatar is preparing to host World Cup 2022, many people ask about our achievements in soccer, and this exhibition tells a lot,” he said.
Ali expressed his pride and honour to have played for Al Ahli team which was established in 1950. “Qatar has a long history in soccer since the British Mandate in Qatar in the 1940s. The country had hosted several international matches where world legends such as the Brazilian all-time legend Pele played,” he added.
The exhibition displays biographies of several prominent Qatari soccer players and their achievements, in addition to old photographs of international sport events hosted by Qatar. It also features audio and visual contents for some legends and a collection of the players’ belongings that form a mini-museum.
