DOHA: The second edition of the Souq Waqif Truffle Exhibition and Auction kicked off on Thursday in the eastern square of the market, which is located in the center of Doha and is a gathering point for visitors.
General Supervisor of Souq Waqif Exhibition and AuctionMohammed Al Salem said that the market management was keen to prepare the place designated for the auction with all the necessary requirements to ensure its success, in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Al Salem confirmed that the quantities currently on offer are good considering it is the beginning of the season, expecting a noticeable increase in the coming weeks as the truffle harvest season reaches its peak in several countries, such as Algeria, Libya, Iraq, Tunisia, and Iran, noting that the quantities currently on offer come from Saudi Arabia and Algeria.
He added that the quantities allocated for the auction will be received starting at 5am, where they will be examined by specialists to ensure their safety, and the auction will start at 8am, noting that free parking spaces will be allocated for visitors to the exhibition and auction in the parking lots of Al-Qubaib Mosque for 30 minutes.
Jamal Al Ishaq, the official in charge of the truffle auction yard, expected a large turnout for the auction thanks to its location in Souq Waqif, which enhances the popular truffle trade.
In this context, he explained that truffles are rich in nutrients and are used in preparing popular dishes, which makes them the queen of the winter table in the Gulf.
The auction is open daily in the eastern square of the market from 8 in the morning until 12 noon.
