The second edition of Souq Waqif Truffle Exhibition and Auction kicked off on Thursday in the eastern square of Souq Waqif, located in the centre of Doha, a popluar gathering spot for visitors.

In a statement, General Supervisor of Souq Waqif Truffle Exhibition and Auction Mohammed Al Salem said that the market management made sure the auction area was fully prepared to ensure its success, in coordination with Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Al Salem noted that the quantities available are good for the beginning of the season and expects a significant increase in coming weeks as the truffle harvesting season peaks in countries like Algeria, Libya, Iraq, Tunisia, and Iran.

He mentioned that the current truffles are coming from Saudi Arabia and Algeria.

He added that the truffles allocated for the auction are received starting at 5 am, where they are inspected by specialists to ensure their quality.

The auction itself begins at 8 am. Free parking has been provided for visitors at Al-Qubaib Mosque parking lot for up to 30 minutes.

Jamal Al Ishaq, manager of the truffle auction yard, expects a high turnout due to the market’s location in Souq Waqif, which supports traditional trade of truffles.

He also explained that truffles are rich in nutrients and commonly used in preparing traditional dishes, making them a winter staple across the Gulf region.

The auction is open

daily in the eastern courtyard of Souq Waqif from 8 am to 12 pm.
