Geneva: A team from the World Health Organization (WHO), including its director general, came under fire in an Israeli attack on the international airport in Yemen’s capital Sana’a on Thursday.
“As we were about to board our flight from Sana’a, about two hours ago, the airport came under aerial bombardment, wrote WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on X.
“One of our plane’s crew members was injured. At least two people were reported killed at the airport. The air traffic control tower, the departure lounge - just a few meters from where we were - and the runway were damaged.” The members of the UN and WHO delegation were unharmed and safe, he said.
“Our heartfelt condolences to the families whose loved ones lost their lives in the attack,” Tedros wrote. The Israeli military confirmed it attacked infrastructure belonging to the Houthi militia in Yemen, including at the airport. (DPA)
