Tribune News NetworkDohaQatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has signed a Partnership Framework Agreement with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to develop their partnership in humanitarian areas of common interest, particularly in capacity-building, movement coordination and closely coordinated/joint operations.The agreement was signed by Ali bin Hassan Al-Hammadi, secretary-general of QRCS, and Mamadou Sow, head of the GCC Regional Delegation of ICRC. The signing ceremony was attended by Faisal Mohamed Al-Emadi, CEO of QRCS, Dr Mohamed Salah Ibrahim, director of Relief and International Development Division at QRCS, Cherine Pollini, head of ICRC Mission in Qatar, and Mohamed Hassan, cooperation officer at ICRC Regional Delegation.In his remarks, Al-Hammadi said, “This agreement is important in many overlapping ways, mainly, due to the current humanitarian conditions around the world. Now more than ever, there is an overriding need for concerted efforts, stronger cooperation and better coordination, in order to face the enormous challenges involved in humanitarian work and overcome the obstacles to our field operations. The ultimate goal is to alleviate human suffering, especially among the victims of war and armed conflict — the core mandate of ICRC and one of the key areas of QRCS, as a humanitarian organization that seeks to protect lives and preserve people’s dignity everywhere.”“An effective mechanism introduced by the agreement is a high-level steering committee of QRCS and ICRC’s regional delegation,” he revealed. “Chaired by QRCS in Doha, biannual meetings will be held to review the agreement’s objectives, keep track of the progress of partnership vis-à-vis targets, explore potential improvements, and address any issues that require collective solutions.”Sow stated, “Allow me to express our sincere appreciation and recognition of QRCS’ current magnificent efforts toward responding to humanitarian needs in several contexts around the world. ICRC appreciates QRCS’ important and active role in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. I would like also to value the QRCS leadership’s commitment and dedication that is driven by their genuine belief in the humanitarian imperative and principles to attain this very special milestone in our partnership.”
