London: Tech billionaire Elon Musk has kicked off the new year with continued public support for far-right groups and attacks on elected politicians in Europe.
After recently targeting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, whom he insulted as a “fool,” and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, whom he called a “tyrant,” he has shifted his focus back to Britain.
On Thursday, Musk posted a message on X, the social media platform he owns, that advocates for the currently imprisoned British far-right figure Tommy Robinson by writing: “Free Tommy.” The Tesla boss also shared Robinson’s account and other posts where the far-right and anti-Islam activist is referred to as a political prisoner.
Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is Britain’s most well-known far-right extremist.
Even Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage, whose Reform UK party receives much support from Musk, has in the past distanced himself from 42-year-old Robinson, accusing him of being associated with violent criminals.
Musk, who has over 200 million followers on X, is an adviser to US President-elect Donald Trump.
He recently expressed his support for the German far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the upcoming parliamentary election campaign.
Robinson is currently imprisoned for spreading false claims about a Syrian refugee despite a court injunction. (DPA)
