The Governor of the Red Sea State in Sudan, Major General Mustafa Mohamed Noor, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Qatar, HE Abdullah bin Rashid Al-Mahmoud, joined Qatar Charity’s (QC) field teams in distributing food baskets to sponsored orphans in the cities of Jebit and Port Sudan in eastern Sudan.

This gesture was met with great appreciation from the mothers of the orphans, who expressed their gratitude to the people of Qatar for their generosity. The Governor of the Red Sea State praised Qatar for its support, particularly in charity work for orphans sponsored by QC, which included the distribution of food baskets.

QC had begun distributing the entitlements for the second quarter of the year to sponsored orphans in the River Nile State and its field teams continued their efforts to deliver food baskets to orphans in Kassala and Al-Qadarif states. Mothers of the orphans, local authorities, and humanitarian officials in Kassala State expressed immense gratitude to the people of Qatar.

Qatar Charity also distributed food baskets to orphans in a state experiencing large-scale displacement due to the ongoing war in Sudan.

The Acting Minister of Social Development in Kassala State, Amin Ali Amin, who participated in the launch of the food basket distribution for sponsored orphans in the state, expressed his appreciation for Qatar’s support to the people of Sudan.

He described it as a distinguished and impactful effort to serve the community. He thanked QC on behalf of the Minister of Social Development and the state government, encouraging other organisations to follow QC’s example in supporting Kassala’s citizens and orphans.

In Al-Qadarif State, Zahra Mirghani Mohamed, the Commissioner of Humanitarian Aid, expressed her gratitude to QC for its support of orphans in the state and across Sudan. She noted that the war had exacerbated challenges, increasing the number of orphans and underscoring the need to expand the sponsorship programme.

She added that Al-Qadarif had received many displaced people from East Gezira, who are currently facing dire conditions, including a severe lack of shelter and food. She called on Qatar Charity to continue its humanitarian interventions to alleviate the crisis.

Mothers of orphans sponsored by QC in Kassala and Al-Qadarif states expressed relief upon receiving their children’s entitlements for the second quarter of 2024. The packages included essential food items such as sugar, flour, milk, rice, lentils, oil, and other necessities, depending on the sponsorship value.

QC: Leading organiaation in supporting orphans

Qatar Charity has targeted more than 7,000 orphans in the three eastern Sudanese states of Red Sea, Kassala, and Al-Qadarif, as well as in the River Nile State. According to Mohamed Hamed, Director of the Emergency Department at the Humanitarian Aid Commission in Kassala State, while many organisations are involved in orphan sponsorship, QC stands out as the leading organisation in this area.

In this context, the mother of the orphan Anfal shared that the food basket received as part of the sponsorship entitlements included essential food items. She added, “We pray that God rewards the sponsors of the orphans from Qatar for their kindness.”
