Frankfurt: Freiburg forward Eren Dinkci has dismissed suggestions he could play for the German national team after not being fielded by Turkey last year in a first call-up. Germany-born Dinkci, 23, has played one match for Turkey’s under-19 team and three games for the German U20 side. He was nominated into the Turkey senior squad for two Nations League matches in September but didn’t play, which would allow him reconsider and chose Germany. But Dikci told Monday’s edition of Kicker sports magazine that “my decision for Turkey stands. I would definitely not consider it right to change my mind now. “It is an emotional story: We only really speak Turkish at home in the family. And when we watched football, at tournaments, our hearts were always with the Turkish team. That’s why it can honestly be said that playing for Turkey is a matter close to my heart. (dpa)
