Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane scored twice in the 5-0 thrashing of Hoffenheim on Wednesday but a new contract is still not guaranteed.

The 29-year-old Germany player has been inconsistent for the Bundesliga leaders since joining from Manchester City in 2020 and his current deal runs out in June. He is able to talk to other clubs now but media has speculated he wants to stay at Bayern.

“Ultimately, we’ve both said that we’ll see how the next few games go. And then we’ll see,” he told Sky.

“I’m on for a free transfer,” Sané also joked on Sat.1. “I feel comfortable. We’ll see what happens.” The man of the match opened both halves against struggling Hoffenheim with a goal. It was his first brace in the Bundesliga since August 2023.

Bayern head of sport Max Eberl was also non-committal on a new contract for one of the clubs highest earners but said: “The way he played is exactly what we need.

“Leroy has incredible quality. And if he calls on it like he did here, then he is of course a player who could be considered for Bayern Munich.”

Coach Vincent Kompany, a team-mate of Sané at Manchester City, was happy with his contribution on Wednesday.

“I played together with Leroy. And for me it’s important that I see the same Leroy that I knew when I was a team-mate. And I did,” the Belgian said.
