The Ooredoo Doha Marathon 2025 broke records with thousands of participants hitting the streets in a thrilling display of endurance and determination.
Among them were several Filipinos who crossed the finish line and finished strong. Here, we share their stories and what motivated them to run their own race.
"Running isn’t just about speed; it’s about heart, and today I ran with mine. Despite dealing with a knee injury, I completed three days of volunteering before the race. I was also determined to reach my goal of finishing the 21km run. It wasn’t easy and I’m thankful to Coach Linda, Ka6, and my friends for their support. I am looking forward to more challenges ahead. Thanks to Ooredoo Marathon organisers for the memorable experience. It’s my pleasure to be part of it.”
- Layla Bernal, 21KM Marathoner and Filipino Community Leader
"I joined the marathon because running is my passion and to stay fit as I age. I’m happy with the result because I improved my race timing compared to the last marathon. I also encouraged my colleague Ara to join me, and it was her first time racing.”

"This is my first time joining an official marathon, and it’s a great privilege and a rare opportunity to experience such a well-organized and prestigious event in Qatar. I challenged myself to finish the 5km race, while having fun with my friends. It’s another milestone unlocked and one of the sweetest memories for me as an expat in Qatar. I’m looking forward to joining the 10km race next year!”

"We ran the Dubai Marathon on January 12, 2025, and the recent Ooredoo Doha Marathon 2025. It was difficult as we had a very short amount of time to balance our work schedule and training. But, we believed in ourselves and our ability to finish the race strong.”

"The Ooredoo Marathon is one of the most awaited events in Qatar. Finishing the race safely and crossing the finish line is truly a great achievement for us. The race is not easy, especially for those who don’t run regularly, but with the spirit, dedication of each runner, and the moral support of our colleagues, completing a full or half marathon feels just like a regular training session. To my fellow Filipino runners, mabuhay po tayong lahat! (long live to all of us)! Despite being busy with work, we’re able to find time for physical fitness. We encourage everyone to make time and maintain a fitness program.”

"Ooredoo Marathon 2025 is my first marathon of the year. Despite many obstacles leading up to the race, I still managed to achieve a new personal record (PR) of 3:41:47, which is 5 minutes faster than my Chicago Marathon time of 3:46:27. I also hit my London Marathon qualifying time. While I didn’t hit my target time for Boston, I’m grateful for my results, especially after only a few weeks of training for this race, following a 90 km run. My overall experience at the Ooredoo Marathon was great. The vibes and energy from the volunteers, marshalls, and spectators who cheered on the runners truly helped lift our spirits and keep us going.”
