Egypt has expressed its thanks to Qatar for its fruitful and continuous cooperation to ensure the success of a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, which is scheduled to be implemented on Sunday. It also appreciated the pivotal role played by the new US administration led by Donald Trump to end the crisis, as well as the current US President Joe Biden.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration confirmed, in a statement on Saturday, affirmed Egypt’s commitment to coordinating with partners in Qatar and the US regarding the permanent work to consolidate the ceasefire agreement and the full implementation of its provisions through the launch of the joint operations room, which will be based in Egypt to follow up on the exchange ofdetainees and prisoners and the entry of humanitarian aid, in addition to the movement of individuals after the resumption of the Rafah crossing.

Egypt expressed hope that this would be the beginning of a path that requires concerted regional and international efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, calling on the international community, especially the United States, to support and consolidate the agreement and the permanent ceasefire, and urging the international community to provide all humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people and develop an urgent plan to rebuild Gaza.

The statement also stressed the importance of expediting the development of a roadmap to rebuild confidence between the two sides in preparation for their return to the negotiating table and taking the necessary measures to settle the Palestinian issue within the framework of the two-state solution, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
