The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will kick off the New Year with a breathtaking evening of operatic and orchestral masterpieces at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) on January 20, at 7.30pm. Under the expert baton of conductor Elias Grandy, the orchestra will be joined by internationally acclaimed soprano Julia Koci, tenor Lucian Krasznec, and the Qatar Concert Choir for a captivating programme celebrating the timeless works of Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, Strauss II and Kálmán.

The evening will feature stirring overtures, beloved arias, and iconic operatic pieces from some of the world’s most celebrated composers. Highlights include dramatic selections from La Traviata and Aida and the lively charm of Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus and Der Zigeunerbaron. The concert promises a rich tapestry of musical artistry, offering something for seasoned classical enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

Julia Koci

Vienna-born soprano Julia Koci is a versatile performer celebrated for her extensive repertoire, spanning early music, modern works, and musical theatre. A graduate of Mannes College of Music in New York City, her illustrious career has taken her to prestigious venues such as the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Wiener Musikverein, and the Madrid Nacional Auditorio.

Julia is an active performer in opera, operetta, and sacred music, with notable recordings including Mozart arias and works by Handel, Vivaldi and Bach. Since 2013, she has been an ensemble member at the Wiener Volksoper, captivating audiences worldwide with her dynamic performances.

Lucian Krasznec

Hailing from the Banat region of Romania, Lucian Krasznec is an award-winning tenor renowned for his lyric tenor roles. A graduate of the Music High School in Würzburg, Lucian has performed on major stages, including the Philharmonie Cologne and the Vienna Konzerthaus.

His operatic repertoire spans iconic roles such as Tamino (The Magic Flute), Alfredo (La Traviata), and Ferrando (Così fan tutte). His artistry has earned him accolades, including the prestigious Bayerischer Kammersänger title in 2021.
