Union Berlin put an end to their run of 10 winless Bundesliga matches with a 2-1 home victory against Mainz on Sunday.

Their previous win was a 2-0 at promoted Holstein Kiel on october 20, 2024. Their negative series included seven defeats.

Union were on target immediately after kick-off after Danny Da Costa fumbled a pass from goalkeeper Zentner and the ball was picked by Benedict Hollerbach, who slotted it into the net.

The celebrations didn’t last long as Mainz were awarded a penalty after Lee Jaesung was fouled in the box and Nadiem Amiri

scored the equalizer from the spot.

But Union got a penalty themselves when Hollerbach was brought down and Robert Skov’s spot-kick eventually secured them the win.

Union moved up one position to 12th and are now six points away from the relegation zone.

They can, however, drop down back to 13th if Augsburg scored points against Werder Bremen later.

Mainz, meanwhile, dropped out of the Europa League spot to sixth. On Saturday, leaders Bayern Munich defeated VfL Wolfsburg 3-2 and champions Bayer Leverkusen won 3-1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
