A brace by Phil Foden helped Manchester City get back to their best with a 6-0 trumping of Ipswich.
City collapsed in midweek to drop more points away to Brentford but produced a reminder of their quality with a scintillating attacking display at Portman Road.
Foden broke the deadlock after 27 minutes before he set up Mateo Kovacic to rifle home soon after and the England playmaker grabbed a second before half-time.
Pep Guardiola’s men did not take their foot off the gas after the break, with Jeremy Doku and James McAtee on target in between Erling Haaland’s 57th-minute effort as the striker toasted his new nine-and-a-half-year contract with the club.
Manchester United slumped to another defeat on a day where tributes to Denis Law were followed by a 3-1 loss at home to Brighton.
Yankuba Minteh’s early opener for the impressive visitors was a sign of things to come, even though Bruno Fernandes levelled for United from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute.
Brighton claimed all three points thanks to second-half strikes by Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter, with Andre Onana at fault for the latter’s effort after 76 minutes.
The loss made it 10 defeats from 22 league games this season for United and Ruben Amorim admitted his side were "the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United” in a brutally honest post-match assessment.
It was a similarly dismal afternoon for Tottenham after they were blown away by a dazzling first-half display from Everton.
The Toffees clinched a 3-2 victory to earn David Moyes the first three points of his second spell in charge, but the scoreline could have been more emphatic against an injury-hit Spurs who were woeful in the opening period.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Iliman Ndiaye struck inside half-an-hour for Everton before Archie Gray diverted the ball into his own net in first-half stoppage time and, while Ange Postecoglou watched his side rally through Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, they suffered another demoralising loss.
Nottingham Forest survived a late fightback from Southampton to triumph 3-2 to go level on points with second-placed Arsenal.
Forest raced into a three-goal lead after Elliot Anderson, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chris Wood scored inside 41 minutes.
Bottom-of-the-table Saints could have been set for another rout, but Jan Bednarek pulled one back on the hour mark before Paul Onuachu’s stoppage-time effort set up a grandstand finish at the City Ground.
