DOHA: The Shura Council has held its regular weekly sessionin the Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Council's headquarters, chaired by Speaker of the Council HE Hassan bin Abdullah A -Ghanim.

At the beginning of the session, the Council welcomed the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, stressing that this agreement is the culmination of the efforts of the State of Qatar in partnership with brotherly and friendly countries.

In this context, the Council appreciated the efforts of the wise leadership, represented by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in reaching this agreement, which contributes to reducing tensions and creating conditions for reaching fair and sustainable solutions to the conflict, stressing that the State of Qatar has proven its position and role as a reliable mediator on the international scene.

The Council also praised the State of Qatar's firm humanitarian stances and its continued keenness to provide support and assistance to our brothers in Palestine, especially in the Gaza Strip, which confirms its commitment to supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and championing their just cause.

The Council Chairman said: "The State of Qatar, under the leadership of His Highness the Amir of the country, has spared no effort in carrying out its noble humanitarian role to stop the bloodshed of our Palestinian brothers.”

He added: "Qatar has been and continues to be a voice for peace and a major supporter of all initiatives aimed at protecting civilians and alleviating their suffering. The ongoing Qatari aid to provide the basic and necessary needs of the Palestinians reflects our country's commitment to stand by our brothers in the most difficult circumstances, based on its moral and humanitarian duty."

Then, Secretary-General of the Shura Council HE Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud, read the agenda of the session, and the minutes of the previous session were approved.

During the session, the Council approved a draft law on extending the concession granted to the Qatar Ports Management Company, and referred it to the esteemed government, after reviewing the report of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, and discussing its details by the members.

On the other hand, the Council reviewed the report of the Education, Culture, Sports and Media Affairs Committee, which included the Committee’s opinion on the esteemed government’s statement regarding the proposal submitted by the Council regarding "regulating private schools,” and took the appropriate decision regarding it.

The Council also reviewed the esteemed government’s response to the Council’s proposal regarding "developing the tourism economy,” and referred it to the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee to study it and provide it with its conclusions regarding it.

At the end of the session, the Shura Council reviewed two reports, the first on the participation of its delegation in the second meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, and the second meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the Fifteenth Conference of Women Parliamentarians, which were held in Geneva in October of last year, and the second report on participation in the conference to launch the parliamentary document for Arab women, which was held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, in October of last year.
