The Nepal Business Association Qatar successfully held its first annual general meeting (AGM) for the 2024-2028 term in Doha on Saturday.

The event was led by Mahendra Prasad Chamlagai, the president of the association, and honoured by the presence of the newly appointed Nepalese Ambassador to Qatar HE Ramesh Chandra Paudel, as the chief guest.

Ambassador Paudel was formally inducted as the association’s Patron, a role designated by its constitution to the Nepalese Ambassador.

In his keynote address, Ambassador Paudel emphasised the embassy’s commitment to supporting Nepalese entrepreneurs and unveiled plans to introduce Nepalese agricultural products to Qatar through the establishment of Nepal House. He assured continued backing for ethical businesses and reiterated his dedication to protecting the rights and interests of Nepalese citizens in Qatar.

Narendra Bhat, the association’s vice president, opened the meeting with a progress update, followed by Kumar Rai, deputy chief of mission at the Nepalese Embassy, who encouraged investments in Nepal’s tourism and hydropower sectors. Chief Advisor Prabin Gurung stressed the need for timely strategic initiatives and urged Nepalese entrepreneurs to identify niche opportunities.

Senior entrepreneur and Patron Devkaji Dangol reflected on the history of Nepalese migration to Qatar, while Patron Badri Prasad Pandey highlighted the significant contributions of Nepalese workers and entrepreneurs to Qatar’s economic growth, addressing misconceptions about their roles.

Vice President Ramesh Bhatt elaborated on collaborations with international business organizations and shared updates on the development of Nepal House in Qatar. Legal Advisor Ramzan Ali Miya praised Qatar’s investment-friendly environment and urged Nepalese entrepreneurs to diversify into various sectors.

Treasurer Chudamani Karki presented the financial report, and General Secretary Shankar Prasad Neupane delivered the annual progress report. The AGM concluded with Chamlagai expressing gratitude to the Nepalese Embassy and reaffirming the association’s commitment to fostering investments in Nepal. He highlighted ongoing collaborations with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), marking the association’s milestone as the first international body to secure FNCCI foreign membership.

The event, co-hosted by General Secretary Shankar Prasad Neupane and Secretary Rajendra Devkota, was a testament to the growing role of Nepalese entrepreneurs in strengthening bilateral economic ties between Nepal and Qatar.
