The chief psychiatrist of the Ukrainian armed forces has been arrested on suspicion of corruption.
The SBU security service said on Tuesday that the suspect’s wealth had increased by almost a million euros since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in 2022.
Kiev media pointed out that the army’s top psychiatrist is also deputy head of the central medical commission that decides on fitness for military service. The SBU says the arrested man had acquired a house, three flats, two plots of land and four cars since 2022.
The assets had not been declared, and the man had transferred ownership to family members for reasons of concealment, the SBU alleged.
Due to the war, tens of thousands of Ukrainian men are trying to avoid military service.
Many cases of corruption have been discovered in the recruiting offices or among medical examiners.
