Carrefour stores across Qatar on Saturday observed Earth Hour, a global movement in which millions of participants join forces for the sake of a greener planet.
Carrefour participated by switching off all dispensable lights, including signage, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, effectively saving 440 KW of energy, while essential light sources were dimmed in the interest of customer safety.
Laurent Hausknecht, country manager at Carrefour Qatar, said: "At Carrefour, we take our responsibility as an active corporate citizen seriously and will continue our drive to support environmental causes.
"Through our actions, we hope to inspire others and raise awareness on the need to promote energy conservation, as it’s important that we work together to create change for the better.”
Building on its efforts, Carrefour will also reward customers who choose not to use single-use plastic bags at its checkout counters with 50 points on their MyCLUB digital cards.
Carrefour will continue to demonstrate its commitment to the local communities and environment, positively contributing to a wide range of initiatives to create great moments for everyone everyday.
