MoscowcTypeface:> The Russian military said on Wednesday it had expanded its bridgehead west of the Oskil River in the eastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv.
Army units had captured the village of Zapadne in Kharkiv, the Russian Defence Ministry said. Ukrainian forces have been under pressure to defend this section of the front line for months as the Russian military has tried to push westwards in Kharkiv and retake the strategically important city of Kupiansk.
Russian troops seized Kupiansk a few days after the start of its full-scale invasion almost three years ago, but were forced to withdraw during a Ukrainian counteroffensive late in 2022. (DPA)
