Hamad International Airport (HIA), in collaboration with Qatar Aviation Services and Qatar Duty Free, conducted a special tour for the Centre for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan Centre).
The tour aimed to showcase the airport’s state-of-the-art facilities for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM).
Twenty-three guests from Ehsan Centre took part in the tour, which included the elderly and staff members.
The guests visited various locations across the terminal with Qatar Aviation Services highlighting the services provided for PRM, including the departure area, boarding gate, arrival hall and Oryx Airport Hotel.
The successful tour ended with a lunch for the guests at Le Marche restaurant.
Abdulaziz al Mass, vice-president Marketing and Corporate Communications at HIA, said: "We are delighted to welcome and host Ehsan Centre’s elderly members at the airport to showcase the facilities provided for PRM. We are committed to empowering all our passengers as well as making our five-star services and facilities accessible to everyone.”
Buthaina al Marzouqi, director of the Internal Care Department at Ehsan Centre, said: "Our visit to HIA has been a tremendous success with the elderly and staff at Ehsan. Initiatives like these help the centre achieve its strategic objectives of providing programmes and trips that empower the elderly and provide them with social activities. We thank HIA for hosting us and their efforts in providing an engaging tour for our members.”
HIA offers barrier-free access and dedicated facilities to make travelling more comfortable for passengers requiring additional assistance. HIA’s network of elevators, escalators, ramps, walkways, check-in’s and passenger train offer simple access to PRM.
In addition, the airport is dedicated to ensuring the safest environment for all its passengers with the terminal building equipped with over 180 evacuation chairs to assist PRM out of the building in an emergency.
The airport terminal is equipped with various conveyance equipment to assist with either vertical or horizontal circulation. All conveyance equipment for the purpose of assisting passengers with reduced mobility has smooth and level thresholds with controls, where required, mounted within easy reach.
Special handling lounges are available throughout the terminal for the comfort of passengers who require special assistance. All special handling lounges offer comfortable seating and trained attendants.
