WASHINGTON: The United States has announced the start of mass deportation flights for illegal immigrants, under orders from President Donald Trump.

“Deportation flights have begun,” White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said in a post on the X platform.

“President Trump is sending a clear and strong message to the entire world that if you enter the United States illegally, you will face severe consequences,” she said, as images of handcuffed migrants boarding military planes were published ahead of their deportation out of the country.

The Guatemalan Migration Institute stated that two American military C-17 Globemaster aircraft arrived in Guatemala, explaining that the first aircraft transported 79 people, including 31 women and 48 men, while the second aircraft carried an unspecified number of deportees.

US President Trump had pledged during his election campaign to launch a massive campaign to expel illegal immigrants, and he has confirmed during his second presidential term that he will fulfill his promises.

Earlier this week, he declared a "national emergency" on the southern border with Mexico, and deployed military forces to reinforce security, while the White House considers this operation to be "the largest mass expulsion in history."
