DOHA: The Ministry of Public Health has carried out an intensive inspection campaign on all restaurants and cafeterias in the Industrial Area, with the aim of ensuring the safety of food products provided by verifying their compliance with health requirements, based on the Food Safety Practices Guide prepared by the Ministry and available on its website.

The campaign aimed to examine food practices that directly or indirectly affect the safety and quality of food products in the industrial area, where inspectors from the Food Safety Department at the Ministry of Public Health focused in particular on inspecting and examining the process of preparing and handling sensitive foods, in addition to taking samples to ensure the safety of food products.

Wasan Abdullah Al Baker, Director of the Food Safety Department at the Ministry of Public Health, said: "The campaign included covering all restaurants and cafeterias located in the industrial area, through implementing 1,038 inspection visits to the facilities located in the area, including 555 follow-up visits, as the inspectors are keen to provide support and ensure the implementation of corrective measures by the food facility in order to raise the level of compliance with technical requirements and health standards."

She added that 320 samples of ready-to-eat meals were also withdrawn and subjected to examination and analysis in the central food laboratories of the Ministry of Public Health, where the test results showed that all samples were within the permitted safe limits.

She pointed out that the owners of the establishments expressed, during the campaign, a clear desire to improve the level of their food establishments, through cooperation and keenness to implement the recommendations of the Food Safety Department representatives, which contributed to improving the level of evaluation of the region’s establishments at the end of the campaign.

The Ministry of Public Health stressed its constant commitment to achieving the highest standards of quality and safety in all food establishments in the State of Qatar, as the Ministry’s Food Safety Department continues to intensify awareness campaigns in the industrial area and organize training courses in different languages ​​for establishment owners, supervisors and food handlers on food safety principles and health requirements with the aim of improving the level of compliance with standards and requirements to ensure the provision of safe food products to consumers.
