Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Qatar played a pivotal role in the success of the 13th edition of the Ooredoo Marathon, held on January 16-17.
This year’s event, the largest ever with more than 15,000 participants, united people from across the globe to celebrate sports and unity. Among the dedicated Filipino volunteers were community leaders Felipe Davila Catinoy and Mega Cervantes, who have supported major events in Qatar for many years. Here’s what they had to say about their recent volunteer experience.
"For me, it’s important to give back to the community, and it has always been a priority to help people with passion and dedication. The Doha Marathon by Ooredoo was truly an unforgettable experience. From the early morning start at 4:30 AM at my assignment at the Runners’ Baggage Drop-Off counter to the last runner crossing the finish line, every moment was filled with excitement. The sense of community, the spirit of sportsmanship, and the shared goal of promoting health and wellness made this experience truly remarkable. It was a great opportunity to learn new skills, make new friends, and be part of something special.”
-Mega Cervantes
Filipino influencer and community leader
"As a Filipino resident in Qatar, I volunteered for the Doha Marathon 2025 to be part of an event that unites people from all walks of life, regardless of background or nationality. It’s an opportunity to represent the Philippines, support athletes, and contribute to Qatar’s vibrant multicultural atmosphere. Volunteering also allows me to give back to a country that has given me so much, while fostering connections with people from around the world and promoting the values of sportsmanship, health, and unity.”
- Felipe Davila Catinoy
