The AMU Old Boys Association of Qatar (AMUOBA) celebrated the 207th Sir Syed Day with a vibrant event held at the Al Massa Ballroom, Holiday Inn, Doha, on January 10, 2025. The gathering featured an enchanting blend of poetry and cultural performances.
Imran Pratapgarhi, a celebrated poet, chairman of the Congress Minority Department, and parliamentarian, was the chief guest of the event.
AMUOBA President Moen Azmi warmly welcomed the gathering, delivering heartfelt remarks on the richness and cultural significance of Urdu literature.
In attendance were other distinguished guests including Brigadier Ahmad; Eng. Abdul Sattar, chairman of the Engineers Association; and Qatar radio presenter Obaid Tahir. Their presence underscored the strong community bonds nurtured by AMUOBA, reflecting its enduring commitment to fostering connections among the AMU alumni.
The evening was further elevated by performances from celebrated poets in Qatar, including Azeez Nabil, Ashfaq Deshmukh, Ahmad Ashfaq, Dr Wasiul Haque Wasi, Muzaffar Nayab, and Shalini Verma. Their recitations captivated the audience, weaving narratives filled with emotion, humour and wisdom, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of poetry.
A highlight of the event was an engaging quiz hosted by Sadia Khan, adding an entertaining element to the evening. The audience participated with great enthusiasm in the quiz answering questions and vying for on-spot prizes.
General Secretary Mohammad Obaidullah provided a presentation highlighting AMUOBA’s diverse activities and charitable causes. He underscored the educational projects undertaken by AMUOBA for underprivileged and meritorious students, showcasing the association’s commitment to social responsibility and community
development.
Additionally, the event showcased spectacular performances from children, delighting attendees and emphasizing the importance of nurturing artistic talent within the community.
The anchor duo of the evening, Ayesha and Jihan, received praise for their exceptional hosting abilities.
Vice President Mazhar Khan delivered the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, participants, and the executive committee team members—Salman, Khubaib, Rameez, Saireen, Faraz, Shahid, and others—for their invaluable contributions in making the evening a resounding success.
