DOHA: Director General of the Organizing Committee for the FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 Mohammed Saad Al Mugheiseeb stressed that the design of the tournament's identity, which was revealed on Monday, celebrates the authentic Qatari and Arab culture and values ​​that Qatar seeks to highlight by hosting this global sporting event.

Al Mughaiseeb expressed his hope that this tournament will contribute to enhancing the culture of basketball and increasing its popularity in the region, noting that the FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 will be one of the most sustainable editions in the history of the tournament, thanks to the commitment to environmental practices and social responsibility.

“This tournament represents a global message of unity, peace and solidarity among the peoples of the world, regardless of their cultures, backgrounds and languages, and a platform that brings everyone together in an atmosphere full of mutual respect and brotherhood. We believe that this tournament will contribute to presenting an honorable image of the State of Qatar’s ability to organize the largest sporting tournaments that have a sustainable cultural and sporting legacy for future generations,” he added.

For her part, Sarah Khalid Al Misnad, Executive Director of Guest Relations and Communications of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, said that the launch of the official identity of the FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 is a moment of pride for the State of Qatar, as the identity reflects our commitment to combining the strength of competition witnessed in basketball competitions with our rich culture, noting that the logo inspired by the Qatari 'Bisht' symbolizes what it means to host this major tournament in our country.

“Through this identity, we invite the world to discover how sport can unite people around the world behind a common goal,” she continued. “The official identity of the tournament confirms Qatar’s commitment to providing a unique sporting experience for both players and fans alike. The 2027 FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup will be a platform where tradition meets innovation.”

Fahad Ibrahim Juma, Executive Director of Strategy and Planning at the Organizing Committee of the tournament, said: “The launch of the official identity of the World Cup is an important step on the road to organizing an exceptional edition of the FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup, in which the authenticity of Arab and Middle Eastern traditions meets the excitement of basketball competitions."

He pointed out that the upcoming edition of the tournament highlights the ambitions to establish Qatar as a global destination for sports.

He added, “In this edition of the tournament, we are committed to making sustainability a key focus in all stages of planning and implementation, as it is based on environmentally friendly practices that include reducing the carbon footprint, using sustainable resources, in addition to supporting community initiatives that leave a positive impact on the local and international community.”

The Executive Director of Strategy and Planning of the Organizing Committee of the tournament concluded by saying: “The Organizing Committee seeks to make this tournament a model to be emulated in integrating sports with the Sustainable Development Goals, as we seek to provide an integrated sports experience that is not limited to excitement in the stadiums, but extends to bring about positive and sustainable change in society and enhance the values ​​of unity and solidarity among the peoples of the world.”

Earlier on Monday, the International Basketball Federation and the Organizing Committee of the Basketball World Cup 'Qatar 2027' revealed the official identity and logo for the tournament, which is being held for the first time in the Middle East.

The identity is inspired by the Qatari Bisht that men wear on official occasions. As for the slogan 'Qiddam', it wraps the Bisht around the Naismith Cup.

It is worth noting that the FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 will be held from August 27 to September 12, 2027, for the first time in the Middle East.

Basketball fans from all over the world will gather to enjoy the atmosphere of the first edition in the history of this major tournament to be held in one city, where fans will have the opportunity to attend more than one match in one day.

The tournament will see the participation of 32 teams, and its matches will be held in four main halls, while the Lusail Hall will host the final match.

The Qatari team is participating in the tournament for the second time after its first participation in the 2006 edition of the tournament, which was held in Japan.

The road to the FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 begins in November 2025, with 80 teams from all FIBA ​​continental federations participating in the World Cup qualifiers. The qualifiers will be held over 15 months, with more than 2,000 players participating in 420 matches.

The draw for the tournament qualifiers will be held in Doha on May 13.

The International Basketball Federation announced that the State of Qatar had won the bid to host the 2027 World Cup during its meeting held on April 28, 2023 in the Philippine capital, Manila.
