Simone Inzaghi is refusing to take anything for granted as Inter Milan attempt to book their place in the Champions League last 16.
The 48-year-old, who replaced Antonio Conte as head coach during the summer of 2021, is delighted with the progress his team has made since, but is in no mood to count any chickens before they hatch.
Inter go into the final round of group games fourth and would secure a top-eight finish in the table by avoiding defeat against Monaco at San Siro on Wednesday evening, with Inzaghi acutely aware that some of European football’s biggest names do not have that luxury available to them.
He told a press conference: “We’re aware of the path we’ve taken and the challenges faced over the last three-and-a-half years. We’ve had to work hard, but I knew that from the start.
“However, we’re close to being among the top eight, which is no small feat, although I’d wait until tomorrow night before talking about a great achievement.
“Some teams with bigger budgets than Inter will miss out, but the Champions League has challenges in every game.” Three-time winners Inter will welcome the 2003-04 runners-up to Italy having collected 16 points to leave themselves all but assured of automatic qualification.
They are unbeaten in 16 Serie A games and are just three points behind leaders Napoli having played one fewer.
