In a landmark announcement, Visit Qatar, in collaboration with the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO), World Triathlon, and the Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation, revealed plans to host the T100 Triathlon World Championship Final in Doha from 2025 to 2029. This five-year partnership reinforces Qatar’s status as a global sports hub and a leader in sports tourism.
The first Qatar T100 Triathlon World Championship Final will take place from December 11 to 13, 2025. Participants will compete on a course that showcases Doha and Lusail, including a swim in the Arabian Gulf, a cycle along scenic routes, and a run past iconic landmarks like Lusail Stadium.
A Festival for All
The event is designed for both professionals and amateurs. Amateur athletes can compete in the 100km triathlon distance, comprising a 2km swim, an 80km bike ride, and an 18km run. This inclusive format promotes triathlon as a sport for all.
Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Mawlawi, CEO of Visit Qatar, emphasised the event’s significance: “We are thrilled to partner with the Professional Triathletes Organisation to bring the T100 Triathlon World Championship Final to Qatar. This event highlights our commitment to hosting world-class sports events and strengthens our position as a global hub for sports tourism.”
Global Milestone for Triathlon
The T100 series is recognised as the Official World Championship Tour of Long-Distance Triathlon by World Triathlon. Antonio F Arimany, President of World Triathlon, praised the partnership:
“This series represents a new chapter for triathlon, blending elite competition with global participation. Hosting this championship in Qatar ensures a world-class experience for athletes and the broader triathlon community.”
Qatar’s state-of-the-art sports infrastructure and its commitment to innovation make it an ideal host.
Sam Renouf, CEO of PTO, said, “This partnership aligns perfectly with our vision for the T100 series, showcasing Qatar as a premier family-friendly destination and global
sports hub.”
Renouf emphasised Qatar’s balance between respecting its heritage and focusing on innovation, calling it the perfect alignment for the T100 series’ goals.
Abdulaziz Al Tamimi, President of the Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation, highlighted the event’s alignment with Qatar’s National Vision 2030, which promotes health and wellness.
“This championship is a milestone for Qatar, inspiring future generations and fostering active lifestyles. It also strengthens our efforts to develop local talent and prepare our national team for international competitions.”
World-Class Athletes and Competition
The T100 series will showcase some of the world’s finest athletes, including Olympic champions and World Championship winners from 13 countries who have already confirmed their participation for 2025. Notable names include American Olympian Taylor Knibb and Belgian Olympian Marten Van Riel, the inaugural T100 series world champions crowned in Dubai.
Athletes are required to participate in at least five of the ten T100 races held throughout the season. Their top four performances, combined with their result in the Qatar T100 Final—where points count double—will determine their overall ranking in the series.
