London: Steven Gerrard is reportedly set to leave as manager of Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq, according to reports. Damman-based newspaper Al Yaum claims the former Liverpool captain and the club have mutually agreed to part ways after a run of poor results. The 44-year-old has been in charge since the summer of 2023 and a year ago signed a new deal to take him through to 2027. However, this season has not gone well with Ettifaq 12th in the 18-team table, having lost eight of their 17 matches. After the weekend’s draw at second-bottom Al Wehda, Gerrard said he was “not satisfied with the players’ performance” and injuries and the absence of key players had affected their form. Gerrard’s departure is expected to be confirmed before the team’s match against third-placed Al Shabab, scheduled on Friday. (PA Media/dpa)
