Chief organiser of Punjab Music Group and a ‘tabla’ maestro Nazakat Ali Khan left Doha on April 13 to perform at different locations in Japan, Malaysia and the Philippines.
He would entertain the audience in Tokyo with 12 other artistes from Pakistan. In Kuala Lumpur, he will be joined by some classical singers from India. They will perform ‘ghazals’ in Malaysia. He will then go to Manila and perform with some Pakistani female artistes. He will complete his tour in two weeks.
“I am really honoured to have been invited to perform in these countries. I am confident that music lovers would definitely enjoy my performances,” said Khan who earlier performed in UK, Iran and Thailand.
For many, Khan is just a tabla player who provides musical accompaniment to local vocalists during musical concerts held in Qatar. But a few hardly know that he is working with a mission in his mind – a mission of providing a platform to local artistes where they could polish up their latent skills.
His group started its activities by organising concerts where local artistes belonging to different nationalities were invited to perform. Later, the group decided to broaden horizon of its activities by inviting renowned artistes from India and Pakistan.
He has received formal training in tabla playing from Pakistan’s noted musicians Ustad Sajjad Ali Khan and Mehmood Ghaznavi Sabiri.
