A shooting outside a United Nations compound in Kabul has resulted in one death and left another person with minor injuries, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said on Monday.
The deceased was identified as a member of the Taliban security forces. The injured individual is a UN-contracted international security guard.
The details of what happened, and whether it was a deliberate act or an accident, are still unclear, and the UN and the Taliban authorities launched separate investigations.
Following the shooting, Afghan authorities briefly restricted movement in and out of the UN compound. However, the UN has since been informed that these restrictions have been lifted.
The UN compound in Kabul houses the offices of UNAMA, several other UN agencies, as well as other programmes and accommodation for international staff.
