A fashion show featuring traditional Tanzanian attires and rendition of traditional Tanzanian music were the highlights of the celebrations of the country’s 55th National Day held at Grand Hyatt on Thursday.
The event marks the unification of Tanganyika and Zanzibar on April 26, 1964, and renaming of the unified country as Tanzania.
The event also featured display of traditional Tanzanian crafts reflecting the rich heritage of the East African country. Furthermore, those present got to know about the tourism offerings in Tanzania.
This was the second Tanzania National Day celebrations in Doha since the opening of the country’s embassy in 2017.
The event was attended by the Minister of Justice HE Dr Issa bin Saad al Jafali al Nuaimi, Director of Protocol HE Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, and Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Eritrea to Qatar HE Ali Ibrahim Ahmed, among other ambassadors and diplomats.
Speaking at the event Tanzanian Ambassador to Qatar HE Fatma Mohamed Rajab said that Qatar and Tanzania have always been enjoying cordial bilateral relations. “The historic relations between our two countries have been growing stronger with the opening of our embassies in our capitals and exchange of visits by our leaders.”
The ambassador said that there have been reciprocal visits between the heads of states of both countries in the last few years.
She added that on March 21 this year, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani visited Tanzania and the visit was a success. “The visits created opportunities for promotion of bilateral ties between the United Republic of Tanzania and Qatar.”
The ambassador added, “We are here to affirm our profound political will which now takes our long friendship and cooperation to higher levels of partnership that will contribute positively to our economies.”
On the issue of Tanzanian workers in Qatar, she remarked: “An agreement to regulate employment of Tanzanian workers was signed by Qatar and Tanzania way back in 2014. The agreement was designed to create opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled workers from Tanzania to work in different sectors in Qatar.”
The ambassador said that Tanzania has a number of tourist attractions which can be explored by people from Qatar.
“Qatar Airways’ services allow tourists from different parts of the world to visit Tanzania. It has two daily direct flights to Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. We welcome the Qatar community to take this opportunity to visit our attractive tourists’ destinations.”
The ambassador also praised Qatar for hosting a successful Inter-Parliamentary Union recently and wished Qatar the best in its preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2022.
