GENEVA: Minister of Labour HE Dr Ali bin Samikh Al Marri has held separate meetings with Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert Houngbo; Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, Beate Andrees; and Assistant Director-General for Governance, Rights, and Dialogue, Manuela Tomei.

The meetings took place during theminister's official visit to the ILO headquarters in Geneva.

Discussions focused on implementing the third phase of the joint work programme between the State of Qatar and the ILO and reviewing the progress achieved.

Additionally, avenues for strengthening cooperation were explored, particularly in capacity-building and training initiatives for Qatar's labour sector specialists.

In March 2024, the State of Qatar and the ILO signed a four-year extension of their joint work programme to enhance the work environment, improve the competitiveness of the national workforce, and align training programmes with labour market demands.

This extension aligns with Qatar's national workforce priorities under Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy (2024–2030), emphasising private-sector employment opportunities for nationals and workforce skills development.

The third phase of the programme is structured to support the labour sector objectives outlined in the National Development Strategy by modernising workforce policies; strengthening labour market institutions; and enhancing the competitiveness of Qatari cadres.
