Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation (QF) Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al Thani on Sunday attended the opening ceremony of the
Education Forum on Heritage and Identity at Katara Cultural Village.
The forum, which will conclude today, is being organised by The Education Development Institute (EDI), part of QF’s Pre-University Education (PUE), in cooperation with the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science – under the Ministry of Education and Higher Education – the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
The opening remarks of the forum were delivered by
Minister of State HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al Kuwari on the importance of heritage and identity, followed by an introductory speech on national identity by Dr Jassim Sultan, director of Wijdan Cultural Center.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Buthaina Ali al Nuaimi, President of PUE at QF; Abeer al Khalifa, executive director of Academic Affairs at PUE, QF; Sheikh Noof al Thani, executive director of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships at PUE, QF; and Mehdi Benchaabane, director of EDI at PUE, QF.
The students of QF schools also performed a traditional operetta entitled My Heritage is My Identity, which was organised by Sara al Hajri, head of Qatar History and Heritage at EDI, and composed and directed by Faisal al Tamimi.
The two-day forum features a number of activities that centre around the national programme subjects, as well as a series of sessions and discussions led by heritage experts. Topics include ‘The Role of Heritage in Promoting Identity’ and ‘Preserving Heritage’.
