Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation ‘Kahramaa’ has signed two separate contracts worth QR157.6 million with CEGELEC Qatar and Grid Solutions for upgradation of Kahramaa’s Telecommunication networks and National Control Centre (NCC) & Distribution Control Center’s (DCC) modifications and expansions .
The contract for Telecommunication networks’ upgradation worth QR95.6 million was signed by Essa Bin Hilal al Kuwari, Kahramaa’s President and Mathieu Guillerey, General Manager of CEGELEC Qatar, a member of VINCI Energies Group, Kahramaa said in a statement on Wednesday.
The signing ceremony was attended by HE Franck Gellett, French Ambassador to Qatar and several senior functionaries of both the companies.
The contract signing pertaining to the communication networks’ improvement is a part of Kahramaa’s efforts to enhance the communication networks in the corporation, using the latest MPLS techniques.
It will cover together connecting all sites of electricity and water with the control centers of 468 locations to complete the transformation of smart grid technologies as well as ensuring needs of current and future applications.
Moreover, it will connect the smart grids with different capacities and secure their requirements through different ways of connecting. The contract aims to implement the specified works within three years and the project has been initiated by arranging the primary designs after completing survey works for different locations.
The contract for expanding and modifying the National Control Centre (NCC) and Distribution Control Centre’s (DCC) networks worth QR62 million will add more electricity transmission networks’ stations in Qatar with upgradation centres embedded with the latest technologies in field of controlling and monitoring.
In addition, it will enhance smart grids’ applications and cyber security for 124 stations to contribute in preserving energy and performing efficient operations.
The contract will meet the growing demands due to the comprehensive development witnessed by the state.
Kahramaa had invited the bid pertaining to the upgradation of telecommunication networks in the first quarter of 2018 and the project was awarded in January 2019.
The bid for expanding the National Control Centre and Distribution Control Centre was invited in the fourth quarter of 2017 and the project was awarded in July 2018.
Kahramaa awarded the bids to these companies for their best offers presented among other competing companies in connection with the projects.
