The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has confirmed that all arrangements have been put in place to ensure maximum level of security and safety during the holy month of Ramadan.
The MoI is keen on intensifying efforts as per security requirements.
The geographical security departments have made all necessary arrangements and completed procedures to provide security and safety for citizens and residents. The departments will conduct security patrols in various streets to prevent violations and protect people from any risk.
On the traffic level, the General Directorate of Traffic has taken all necessary measures to enable traffic officers to cooperate with the authorities concerned to ensure smooth flow of traffic and remove any bottlenecks which may occur during peak hours.
The directorate will also organise an awareness campaign during the holy month to educate road users on reducing accidents on some roads, especially during pre-breakfast period.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of traffic safety requirements among all segments of society and focus on the need to respect traffic laws and regulations.
It will also inform the public on road safety guidelines.
Director of Media and Traffic Awareness Department Colonel Mohammad Radhi al Hajri said the awareness department works within the framework of a systematic awareness plan aimed at achieving road safety by spreading awareness about the need of respecting speed limits, using seat belts and avoiding using mobile phones while driving.
He said the department will organise several events during Ramadan such as the religious exhibition of publications in cooperation with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, which is held during the days of Ramadan at the main hall of the General Directorate of Traffic.
There are other activities such as Ramadan Iftar for truck drivers, visiting family councils, Ramadan Iftar for communities, and Ramadan Iftar for the elderly in Ehsan center, as well as awareness lectures for civil servants, he added.
Hajri further added that during the celebration of Garangao, which is a fun and joyful heritage ceremony for children, the department will send simple awareness messages to children, accompanied by symbolic gifts of traffic significance to instil traffic awareness among new generations.
Exhibitions aimed at educating families in markets and commercial complexes will also be organised.
Furthermore, the General Directorate of Traffic pays great attention to traffic safety, especially in the hours leading up to Iftar, through coordination with various relevant departments, within a plan to adopt the spread of traffic patrols in different parts of the country around the clock, especially in peak times, pre-Iftar and evening.
The directorate will increase traffic patrols in the streets surrounding the compounds, commercial areas, and markets, as well as increasing patrols in the Corniche area to cope with high traffic congestion caused by some gatherings during the pre-Iftar period.
In addition, the patrol will continue to monitor the movement of trucks to ascertain the extent of drivers’ commitment to the times they are allowed to travel, by being at the entrances to cities, roads and external axes, in order to ensure the security and safety of road users.
Also, the Rescue Police Department’s (Al Fazaa) security patrols will be working around the clock to maintain security.
Director of Al Fazaa Major Naif bin Faleh al Thani said Al Fazaa will intensify its patrols in all areas of the country during peak hours, especially before Iftar, and after Taraweeh prayer. He said Al Fazaa patrols will distribute dates and water bottles as a form of social communication with the public so that the drivers do not have to rush to catch up with Iftar.
The Community Policing Department is preparing to launch a number of activities during Ramadan this year, in order to enhance communication with the various state institutions and to strengthen cooperation and community partnership to achieve the goals and objectives.
Director of the Community Policing Department Col. Sultan Mohammed al Kaabi said the department aims to reduce the crime and negative phenomena as well as raise awareness of the community regarding the security and safety procedures in public places and develop the sense of security and spirit of cooperation and responsibility shared between the police and members of the community. He added that the department seeks to identify the views and observations of the people and reflect the humanitarian role of the Ministry of Interior.
