The Cabinet, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, has approved a draft law on food and referred it to the Shura Council.

The draft law was prepared with the aim of ensuring the safety and suitability of food throughout the stages of the food chain, and verifying that it complies with requirements, thus providing adequate protection for the health and safety of consumers. The Cabinet also approved a draft Amiri decision to establish the General Authority for Food Safety to implement the provisions of the law regulating food safety.

At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet lauded the outcomes of the state visit of His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the friendly Republic of India on Feb.17 and 18.

The Cabinet stressed that HH the Amir’s fruitful discussions with President of the Republic of India HE Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister HE Narendra Modi, the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed during the visit to enhance bilateral relations, and the principles and future visions included in the joint statement issued at the conclusion of the visit reflected a common desire to develop bilateral cooperation. The visit has taken the historical relations between the two countries to a new level of strategic partnership, for the benefit of their friendly peoples.

The Cabinet also decided to approve a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan regarding bilateral political consultations, and a draft Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the fields of youth and sports between the Government of the State of Qatar and the Government of the Republic of Togo.

The Cabinet concluded its meeting by reviewing four reports and taking appropriate decisions thereon.

The reports are: the annual report on the achievements and work programs of the Qatar General Organization for Standardization and Metrology for 2024; the annual report on the results of the work of the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law; a report on the results of the participation of the State of Qatar’s delegation headed by HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change in the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity; and a report on the results of the visit of HE the Minister of Labor to the Republic of Kenya and his participation in the meeting of the Qatari-Kenyan Joint Committee in the field of labor.
