Souq Al Wakrah will become very busy with a wide range of activities to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr from Wednesday (today).
The activities, which will continue for five days, include a spectacular display of fireworks, games, magic shows, and camel and pony rides, among others. The activities will start from 4pm to 10pm.
Speaking to media persons recently, Souq Al Wakrah Manager Khalid al Suwaidi said, “This year the activities will start on the second day of Eid Al-Fitr. We didn’t organise activities on the first day of Eid Al-Fitr because people are normally busy with their families.”
There will be fireworks for five consecutive days from 8:30pm for five minutes. “This is the first time we are doing this,” he said.
There will also be an air-conditioned tent featuring more than 60 games.
Suwaidi said the shows and fireworks are being brought from countries such as France and Belarus.
There will be horses, ponies and camels, and the beach area is open for people to enjoy. “This Eid is different because many people have not travelled as the schools are still in session and some even have exams. That’s why we expect to see more people coming. We can accommodate more than 60,000 visitors a day,” he said.
“I welcome families to come and spend time in Souq Al Wakrah and Souq Waqif. Everything is ready for them. These venues have a wide range of activities.”
There are more than 1,000 shops and over 80 restaurants in Souq Al Wakrah.
Talking about working with Qatar National Tourism Council to host the events, Suwaidi said, “Many things are coming to Qatar for the first time. People do not need to travel abroad because what they need is available here.”
