Dhaka: A Bangladeshi court on Tuesday ordered the freezing of 124 bank accounts holding over $47.53 million belonging to deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family, an anti-graft official said.

In addition to Hasina, the accounts of her sister Sheikh Rehana, son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed Putul have also been frozen, Akhtarul Islam, a spokesperson for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said following the court’s ruling.

The Dhaka magistrate court, presided over by Judge Zakir Hossain Galib, also ordered the seizure of immovable properties owned by Hasina and her family in Dhaka and surrounding areas. The decision came in response to a petition filed by ACC official Monirul Islam. (DPA)
