The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) observed the International Plastic Bag Free Day on July 3.
The ministry organised several awareness activities to educate the public on the need to limit the use of plastic bags to preserve and sustain the environment, in order to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030, as well as increasing the awareness of using reusable bags and combating plastic pollution.
The ministry’s participation in the celebration of the event reinforces its commitment to support and encourage the efforts and initiatives of civil society organisations to protect the environment.
The United Nations attaches great importance to reducing the use of plastics and stresses the need to unify international efforts to overcome this threat. It is noteworthy that the theme of 2018’s World Environment Day was to overcome plastic pollution.
