HEC Paris in Qatar recently concluded an intensive five-day ‘Energy Major’ as part of the Executive MBA programme for participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of crucial energy issues and the trends shaping the sector.
The 20 participants, coming from varied nationalities such as France, India, Spain, Ivory Coast, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Britain and Norway, attended lectures on energy and oil market fundamentals, geo-economics and geo-politics of energy, renewable energy as well as financing and managing multi-stakeholder projects in the energy industry.
The participants were able to acquire an in-depth understanding of the energy business environment, major industry players and market drivers. Additionally, they were able to understand the constraints and opportunities associated with energy technologies and their potential impact on business models, as well as price formation mechanisms. They also had the opportunity to meet executives from the energy world.
Andrea Masini, HEC Paris Academic Director for the HEC Paris Energy major and Associate Dean of the MBA programmes; Jean-Michel Gauthier, HEC Paris Executive Director of the Energy & Finance Chair; Joseph Nehme, HEC Paris Affiliate Professor of Operations Management and Information Technology; and Yanick Latil, Managing Partner of Y&S Consulting LLP Managing Partner and HEC Paris Executive MBA Alumnus, offered their valued insights to the participants through various path-breaking sessions.
Professor Masini said, “Owing to its increasing significance in the current economic landscape globally, the Energy sector needs deserving attention from academia. This module offers senior leaders and energy executives a powerful toolkit to define strategies and enhance their understanding of current and future trends in the energy sector in this increasingly dynamic market. Most importantly, the participants were able to meet executives from the energy world and exchange experiences and network with other HEC Executive MBA participants. We are looking forward to the second module to deliver a highly focused program aimed at preparing participants to manage any potential challenge.”
The Energy Major is comprised of two modules, one in July and another in October. While the July module took place at the HEC Paris Doha campus, Qatar, the October module will take place in Berlin, Germany.
The HEC International Executive MBA is a part-time programme that provides participants with a set of fundamental skills to expand executives knowledge and leadership capabilities.
The curriculum consists of three key components: 14 core modules covering key business areas, a specialisation (Major), and a final strategic business project (Capstone project). There are eight majors for participants to choose from, allowing them to specialise in a field of their choice. These majors are aerospace & aviation, entrepreneurship - project accelerator, differentiation & innovation through services, leading digital transformation, energy, entrepreneurship & innovation, luxury, and innovation & social business. The next in take for the EMBA in Doha is February 2020.
