ACS International School Doha has achieved excellent exam results for its International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme, a globally-respected qualification for entrance into higher education.
The results show remarkable performances by the school’s diploma candidates, with one pupil achieving a highest-ever score for the school of 41 marks out of a possible total of 45. Last year’s world average was 30 marks, which ACS also beat with its own in-house average of 31 across all candidates, the equivalent of 180 points in the UK’s Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).
By comparison, three starred A-levels are worth only 168 UCAS points. ACS walked away with 100 percent passes in 2019, far ahead of the global average of 79 percent.
Robert Cody, head of school, said, "ACS Doha has the goal of helping individuals to fulfil their academic potential as effective learners while developing a confident and caring outlook as part of a supportive community. The IB diploma results again show that we are succeeding. We are tremendously proud of the achievements of our diploma candidates who have all worked so hard, and of our teaching staff whose tireless dedication and talents in bringing out individual strengths are also clearly visible in these excellent results.”
The IB diploma course typically requires over 2,400 hours of work to complete, during which candidates study six subjects including a literature course in the student’s best language, a second language, individuals and societies (including history, geography and economics), experimental science (biology, chemistry and physics), mathematics and computer sciences, and the arts (including visual arts, music and theatre).
Students are also required to pass in core subjects including Theory of Knowledge and a 4,000-word extended essay as well as a programme of Creativity, Activity and Service documented in a reflective journal.
This is an exciting year ahead for ACS Doha as the school moves from its current location in Al Gharrafa to a larger, cutting-edge campus in Umm Salal Muhammed in August 2020 with capacity for 2,200 students.
ACS Doha is one of the country’s leading international schools, offering a strong core curriculum built on the International Baccalaureate Middle Years (IBMYP) and Diploma Programme (IBDP), as well as the option of a US High School Diploma, with students hailing from over 70 different countries. As one of the leading schools in the country, ACS Doha has a strong College Counselling Programme, guiding each student to find exactly what they wish to pursue after graduation.
The programme evaluates each student, finding their interests, inspirations and personal strengths. ACS graduates have been accepted into some of the world’s most prestigious universities, and have taken up places in the UK, the US, Canada and Egypt, as well as in Education City universities and Qatar University.
