Three promising young rifle shooters were honoured by the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association for their progress during the training camp from July to August.
Thamer al Suwaidi topped the performers, while Faisal al Yahri grabbed the second spot and Al-Harid Fahad al Ibrahim was third.
More than 200 shooters had appeared at the trials, which were followed by the training camp organised by the association from July 1 till today to assess the potential of the participants, aged up to 15 years.
QSAA President Ali Mohammed al Kuwari was present at the closing ceremony and presented the medals to encourage the new generation of shooters in the country so that a talent pool can be created and these shooters can be groomed for future.
Kuwari expressed his delight at the big success of the talent hunt programme, launched by the QSAA. “I’m very happy to see the rapid progress of the participating shooters in the training camp which lasted over a month. We’re quite excited to see the big turnout at the trials. This is the just a start of our plan to unearth the talented boys and girls of various age groups. We’ll continue to hold the training camps.
“Enthusiasm and will to do hard work shown by the shooters in the camp were quite commendable. The association is thrilled by the encouraging response from the shooters. We’ll see how to polish the talent further. We’ll also hold competitions regularly for them for the growth of the sport,” he added.
