The Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association Qatar (AMUAAQ) organised its traditional community iftar on March 14, at Box Park, marking the second Friday of Ramadan. More than 400 Aligs and their families attended the open-air event, which fostered unity and reflection during the holy month.
The chief guest for the evening was Sachin Dinkar Shankpal, first secretary (Culture, Education, Visa & Community Affairs) at the Indian Embassy in Qatar. His warm presence added a special touch to the event as he wished the attendees ‘Ramadan Kareem’.
Also in attendance were dignitaries including Nilanshu Dey, former president of ISC and ICBF, Abur Rahman EP, president of ISC, and other community leaders and special guests.
The event featured a speech by Maulana Ishtiaq Ahmad Falahi, who spoke about the significance of Ramadan, emphasising Zakat and self-reflection.
He encouraged attendees to use the month to purify their souls and seek spiritual growth. After breaking their fast, both men and women joined together for prayers, strengthening the community bond.
AMUAAQ President Dr Nadeem Zafar Jilani welcomed everyone and highlighted the importance of such gatherings in deepening family and community ties, while Chairman Jawed Ahmad emphasised that Ramadan is a time for generosity and reflection.
The event also included a recognition ceremony, where awards were presented to individuals for their contributions to the AMU alumni and community, including EP Abur Rahman, Mohammed Shakeeb Ahsan, and others.
The evening concluded with engaging activities for children, including crafting Ramadan-themed items, and a festive Garangao celebration. The picturesque venue and perfect weather made the event a memorable and meaningful experience for all.
