Istanbul Turkish pop singer Gülsen Bayraktar Çolakoglu, who was arrested over remarks she made in April about religious high schools, is to be released, according to reports. An Istanbul court has placed the pop star under house arrest instead, the state news agency Anadolu reported on Monday.The arrest of the popular singer last week had sparked outrage among artists and other sectors of society.She was sent to Istanbul’s Bakirköy prison late on Thursday on charges of “inciting hatred.” Gülsen, 46, was detained hours after a video circulated on social media showed her making objectionable comments. The singer apologised for her remarks. (dpa)
