London: Pablo Barrios netted an added-time winner as Atletico Madrid beat Sevilla 2-1 to move three points behind second-placed city rivals Real Madrid in La Liga. Diego Simeone’s side looked like they had passed up the chance to take full advantage of the defending champions’ defeat to Valencia on Saturday. And when Barrios picked up the ball in the inside-right channel 10 yards over the halfway line in the third of six added minutes there appeared little prospect of a dramatic winner. However, the 21-year-old Spain international drove into the space in front of him and with Sevilla’s two central defenders backing off he was able to reach the D before curling a low, left-footed shot past goalkeeper Orjan Nyland. That completed the comeback, started by Julian Alvarez’s 25th-minute penalty, which secured Atletico’s first domestic win in five matches. (dpa)
