HAMILTON International School marked the inauguration of its on-campus theatre, the largest of its kind in Doha, with an inaugural theatrical event that attracted hundreds of residents on Friday.
Hamilton Principal Terry Senior led in welcoming the public to their new facility which features an 850-seater auditorium, a VIP balcony, an orchestra pit and state-of-art backstage facilities.
The institution is a brand-new school located in Mesaimeer and is part of International Schools Partnership (ISP), a UK-based owner and operation of 40 schools globally. It is set to welcome its first batch of students at the opening of a new school year in the country.
Hamilton caters to students aged between 3 and 10 years during its first year of operation and plans to expand and become a pre-kindergarten through grade 12 school.
“The day was quite exciting for all of us. We are so proud to launch our school theatre on such a high note. The workshops were a success and the children enjoyed it tremendously and performed remarkably well on stage,” Senior commented on the event.
In an interview with the local media, the Hamilton official also shared their plans of making the most of their amazing facility by staging major theatre productions and orchestra. According to him, “The goal of Hamilton International School beyond the classrooms is to have all the outside providers to come and use our facilities.”
Further talking about the new school, Senior said apart from their massive theatre their impressive campus also features a smaller theatre that can accommodate 260 people, a stadium with two swimming pools, indoor tennis court and a multi-purpose space.
“The school is beautifully-equipped with all these amazing facilities, but what happens in the classroom defines us as a school. We have got 25 incredible teachers and the number is likely to increase as we aim at reaching our maximum student capacity of more than 2300,” Senior said.
The other facilities of the school are a full-sized basketball court, dance studios, fitness centre and a seating area for large sporting events. The outdoor sports area includes a professional standard football pitch and an athletics track, setting a new standard for physical education in Doha.
“I believe in time Hamilton International School will be the number one school in Qatar simply because of the education going in our school complemented by our amazing facilities. We want to redefine education in terms of having students who get up in the morning and love coming to our school,” Senior added.
The inauguration of Hamilton’s theatre featured an event titled “An Afternoon at the Theatre”, produced by a director from London’s West End. More than 250 children participated in the workshops that concluded with a performance led by Greg Arrowsmith, a musical director from the West End for the London Palladium pantomimes, and Joanne Corrigan, an experienced ex-BBC live programme editor and producer.
